POSITION DESCRIPTION

DISCIPLESHIP AND LAY EDUCATION FACILITATOR 2009

Overview:

The concept of the Mid Lachlan Mission Area is to place three ministry agents to serve across three former parishes, each offering specialized ministry according to their gifts. MLMA is targeting ministry and mission demographically (rather than geographically). Mid Lachlan Mission Area comprises the congregations of Forbes, Parkes Currajong and Parkes Welcome, and village congregations at Bedgerebong, Bogan Gate-Gunningbland, Condobolin, Cookamidgera, Eugowra and Trundle.

The primary focus of this team member will be to develop discipleship and lay education across the Mission Area to help church members to move toward mission, ministry and evangelism in their local context.

Because the placement is open to Specified Ministry persons or Lay persons, traditional ministry tasks are negotiable prior to placement. The appointee will be active in worship in at least one, and possibly two, Congregations every week.

Work Areas:

· High commitment to working in Team Ministry;

· Resource congregations and individuals to develop the ministry of the laity, through group and individual education and discipleship experiences; eg of this in the last 3 years - Lay Preachers School, Lay Presider Training (Sacraments and Funeral), Companions in Christ small groups, Emmaus;

· Worship leadership in the congregations, with a focus on encouraging leadership and participation; eg of last three years – restructure of Forbes Leadership Team, and Parkes Currajong, training of Lay Presiders,

· Assist all congregations to develop their group life and their connections with their community; eg of last three years – Community BBQ’s, Thinking of You Voucher Distribution, Church in the Schoolyard, Church in the Garden, Elvis Gospel Celebration.

· Rites of passage – (funerals, weddings etc.)

· Joining the roster for Project Reconnect “message” - approx bi monthly;

· Preaching and Sacramental ministry in all worship groups in rotation with other members of the ministry team.

· Participation in and reporting to meetings of MLMA Council and at least one Church Council.

Accountability:

· Responsible to Mid Lachlan Mission Area Council through the Ministry Team.

General Information:

· Salary or Stipend will be consistent with the Stipend Package of NSW Synod of the Uniting Church.

· A residence will be provided at 24 Church St, Forbes.

· A vehicle will be provided for work related travel.

· Under the Commission for Children and Young People Act 1998 it is illegal for prohibited persons to apply and a “Working with Children Check” will be required.
